Our winter lesson programs are designed for every age, ability, and learning style. Whether you are stepping into skis for the first time, building confidence on the slopes, or sharpening your technique, our experienced instructors create a supportive environment that helps you progress at your own pace. 

Lessons

From first turns to fine-tuning techniques, Spirit Mountain’s ski and snowboard lessons help riders of all levels feel confident on snow. Our professional instructors focus on safety, progression, and fun, tailoring each lesson to meet individual goals. Private and group options are available for kids and adults, making it easy to learn, improve, and enjoy every lap on the hill. 

Reservations are highly recommended, as these popular programs fill up on weekends and holidays. Please note: Deposits are not refundable.

Private Lessons

Private Lessons All Ages Welcome

Our private lessons provide you 1-on-1 instruction and a customized experience tailored to your skill level and interest. 

Private Lesson Details

– Available by reservation during operating hours 

– Good for all ages and abilities 

– 1:1 student to instructor ratio 

– 60 minute lesson = $90 

– 90 minute lesson = $135 

– Options to add a student to the same lesson. ($40 for 60 minute session, $60 for 90 minute session) 

– Lift tickets & rental equipment are NOT included in lesson fees, but can be purchased separately.  

Small Group Lessons

Wee Ski & Wee Board (Ages 2-5)

These lessons are a uniquely fun introduction to skiing or snowboarding so that your child will love the spots as much as we do!   

Wee Ski & Board Details

– Available by reservation on Saturdays and Sundays 

– Good for ages 2-6. All abilities welcome.  

– 1:1 student to instructor ratio 

– 45 minute lesson = $67 

– Lessons include rental equipment, helmet, and ticket for lesson time only. 

– A parent or guardian must stay in close proximity for the entire lesson. 

Spirit Kids (Ages 6-12)

We focus on providing a safe, healthy, and fun lesson to help each student begin their journey in snow sports or to advance their abilities. Spirit Kids are placed in groups by age and ability level and participate in a group lesson. 

Spirit Kids Details

Available Saturdays & Sundays plus holidays (President’s Monday Feb 16)

–  Good for ages 6-12. All abilities welcome.

Group Lessons, TBD instructor ratio

2 hour lesson = $100. Available from 10am-12pm or 1pm-3pm

4 hour lesson = $140. Available from 10am-3pm with a 1 hour lunch from 12-1 (lunch is included)

Lessons include rental equipment, helmet, and a full day ticket.

Spirit Kids 4 Pack: Purchase a 4-pack of Spirit Kids lessons that can be used for kids within the same family. The 4-packs are valid for use on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as holidays. All sessions must be used during the season in which they were purchased. Please call (218)-624-8516 to reserve. 

3 Week Lesson Program (Ages 6+)

A multi-week family ski or snowboard program designed to help parents and kids learn, improve, and enjoy skiing together as a family. Adults and children will receive age-appropriate instruction at the same time, on the same mountain. Children and adults are grouped by ability level, with optional family skiing after lessons each day. Participants choose their preferred weekend sessions both Saturday and Sunday afternoons during checkout. Lessons include rental, ticket, and 1.5-2 hr lesson each day for 3 sessions.

3 Week Lesson Program Details

Available Saturday & Sunday afternoons (1:00pm-3:00pm)

Good for ages 6 and up. All abilities welcome.

Group Lessons

– Three weeks with two hour lesson each week= $210 per person

Lessons include rental equipment, helmet, and a full day ticket for each day of the program

Learn - To Lesson Package (Ages 13+)

The Learn-To package is the all-in-one option for learning to ride. The package includes a rental, lift ticket, and a lesson with teaching techniques that have skiers and boarders enjoying their first day on the snow.

Good for ages 13 and up. All abilities welcome.

Adult Academy (Ages 18+)

This 4-week series is designed to help you achieve your skiing goals and maximize your time on the slopes. Tailored for past beginner to intermediate skiers, this program will refine your skills and boost your confidence on a variety of terrain.  Each session will focus on key aspects of skiing, such as balance and posture, carving and edging, and terrain adaptability.

Sessions are offered on consecutive Wednesdays from 9:30am-1:00pm

Group Lessons, Maximum group size of 10 students

Skill Level: Intermediate and up (can ride chairlift, make turns on hill)

Session 1: Wednesdays, Jan 7, 14, 21, 28 (sold out)

Session 2: Wednesdays, Feb 4, 11, 18, 25

Session 3: Master Class Wednesdays, March 4 + 11

Session 1 & 2 (4 weeks) = $395

Session 3 (2 week masterclass) = $195

Lift tickets & rental equipment are NOT included in lesson fees, but can be purchased separately.

Adult Academy classes are for skiers only.

School, Family, & Organization Packages

It’s easy to get students, clubs, and organizations on snow with Spirit Mountains group packages. These packages are designed to introduce skiing and snowboarding in a structured, supportive setting while keeping things fun and accessible. With professional instruction, rental options, and flexible scheduling, groups of all sizes can enjoy a memorable day of learning and adventure on the mountain. 

Family & Group Lessons (All Ages)

Family and group lessons are designed for families and groups traveling together who want to learn side by side. Participants may have different ability levels, and instruction will be tailored to support the lowest-level skier or rider in the group. All participants must choose either skiing or snowboarding for the lesson.

– Good for groups of all ages and abilities

– Private group lesson

– 60 minute lesson = $136 total for four students ($34 per student)

– Additional students may be added for $32 each

Homeschool Program (Ages 7+)

Homeschool Programming includes three consecutive weeks of alpine skiing and boarding, with optional progressive lessons that pick up where students left off learning the previous week. Students will be placed in groups by ability.

Homeschool Program Details

– Sessions are offered on consecutive Fridays from 10:30am-12:00pm 

– Good for kids age 7 and up. Younger kids are welcome with a parent nearby. 

– All abilities welcome

Session 1: January 16, 23, and 30 

Session 2: February 6, 13, and 20 

– Student lesson only = $70 

– Student lesson and lift ticket = $87 

– Student lesson, lift ticket, rental, and helmet = $100 

– Adult educator rental and lift ticket = $115 

– Lift ticket and rental are valid from 10am-4pm each Friday of your session.

Snow Club (Grades 2-12)

This three-week after school program is great for schools, clubs, church groups, and organizations that want to get a group of kids out on the slopes to learn and improve their ski and snowboard skills. More than 50,000 members have learned to ski and snowboard through our Snow Club!

– Available Monday – Friday after 3pm 

– Good for students of all abilities in grades 2-12 

– Each student receives a lift ticket, ski or snowboard rental, and a 3 hour lesson during each visit.  

– Price is determined by the number of students but is usually around $68 per student

– Scholarship opportunities are available.

World's Greatest Field Trip -WGFT (Grades 2-12)

The World’s Greatest Field Trip at Spirit Mountain is not your ordinary class outing. This school-organized field trip gives students the chance to learn to ski, explore the mountain, and spend an active day outdoors with their classmates. Designed to be fun, educational, and memorable, WGFT introduces students to a lifelong winter activity while getting them outside and moving.

– Available by reservation Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays from 10:00am-2:30pm 

– Good for students of all abilities in grades 3-6. Older groups are welcome as well 

– Each student receives a lift ticket, ski or snowboard rental, and a lesson as part of the cost per student.  

– Lessons available for alpine ski only. 

– Spirit offers a complimentary adult chaperone package for every 10 students on the field trip.

Racing Programs

Ready for some speed? Spirit Mountain’s racing programs offer a fun, skill-building environment for athletes who want to challenge themselves and develop strong fundamentals. Whether you are chasing faster times or just love the energy of race nights, Spirit’s programs balance progression with community and fun. 

Monday Night Adult Race League  

 A professionally organized adult race league. All abilities and no experience needed, have a blast with your friends racing in a relaxed, affordable atmosphere, whether you are a skier, rider or telemarker.

Details

League Format:  

  • Teams: 6 members per team
  • No team? No worries.  We will place you on a team.
  • Racing takes place Monday nights, 5:30pm-7:30pm 

 

2026 Race Days: (Mondays) 6 regular season races 

  • January 12
  • January 19 (MLK Day, yes there is a race)
  • January 26
  • February 2
  • February 9
  • February 16 (President’s Weekend -no race)
  • Makeup Night 1: February 23 (Race makeup for Feb 16)

Race League Fees: 

  • $100 with a Season Pass
  • $170 without a season pass (includes a Monday evening ticket for each evening & registration). Non-season pass holders will be need to reserve and pick-up their “Monday Night Race League” tickets each Monday at the Upper Chalet (Bear Paw) ticket counter. 

 

Other Information: 

  • Signup and payment will be handled only online.
  • Must have a Helmet.
  • Email is our primary communication tool.

Team Duluth

Team Duluth is the racing and competition team associated with Spirit Mountain. Team Duluth is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is One Team for ALL disciplines. For additional information and details visit HERE 

  • Dress for the weather.
    • Dressing in layers is important to stay warm during the lessons.  This applies to all articles of clothing except socks, please wear a single pair of long socks.
  • Stay home if the lesson participant is sick.
    • If someone in your family is sick, please give us a call prior to your lesson to reschedule.
 
 
  • Be prepared: Dress appropriately for the weather!
  • Check-in for lessons at the Snow Sports Desk in Rental which is located in the lower level of the Skyline Chalet. 
  • Arrive 30-45 minutes prior to the lesson time to allow for check-in, rental and gearing up.
    • Once a lesson begins, additional students may not be permitted to join.
  • All classes will meet at a designated location outside in the beginner’s area. Students must arrive at the outside location prior to the lesson time. 
  • Pick-up is at the same location as drop-off.
  • If a child becomes sick during a lesson, parents/guardians will be called to pick up their child.

Reservations are limited. Please make these online. If you have questions or need to make a reservation over the phone, call our Snow Sports Department at (218)-624-8516. All lessons must be paid in full at the time of reservation; there are no refunds. All prices will have applicable taxes charged.  If you call within 72 hours of your scheduled lesson, we may be able to reschedule it to a different day during the winter season, depending on availability. In the event we are closed, we will reschedule your lesson for another time during the current winter season. 

Adaptive Programs

Northland Adaptive

Spirit Mountain is committed to making winter sports accessible to everyone. Our Adaptive Program provides individualized instruction and support for skiers and riders with disabilities, using specialized equipment and trained instructors.

Northland Adaptive (previously Courage Kenny) has operated adaptive ski programs at Spirit Mountain since 1979. Northland Adaptive offers one-to-one instruction in adaptive skiing and snowboarding techniques that accommodate people of all ages with a variety of disabilities. 

Details
  • Northland Adaptive Recreation volunteer instructors specialize in teaching skiing and snowboarding with the use of adaptive equipment to ski or ride.  
  • Priority will be given to students who need adaptive equipment subject to availability. This may include those with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and visual impairments.  
  • Downhill skiing and snowboarding lessons are available for beginning to advanced skiers.  
  • No one is denied access to the program for an inability to pay registration fees.
