The Spirit Mountain Nordic Center at Grand was a dream that has become a reality. Thanks to the tremendous fundraising efforts by DXC (Duluth Cross Country Ski Club), support from the City of Duluth and operational ownership of Spirit Mountain, Duluth is one step closer to becoming a world-class Nordic skiing community.
The Nordic Center at Grand includes 1.5km of full snowmaking capabilities and lights for skiing into the evening hours. Daily, professional machine grooming make this trail system iconic and user-friendly all season long.
The Nordic Center at Grand is located at 8551 Grand Ave. The adjacent Grand Avenue Chalet is full-service, featuring food and beverages at the Riverside Bar and Grill, restrooms, changing areas, ticketing and more.
Hours of operations are dawn to 8:00pm, when open for the season. See the Snow Report and Hours page for more details.
The Upper Spirit Mountain Nordic Trails at Spirit Mountain feature 22 kilometers of beautifully wooded cross-country ski trails located at 9535 West Skyline Parkway, just past the main entrance to Spirit Mountain.
With options for all levels of skier, these natural snow trails are groomed for classic and skate skiing. The trails are marked with loops and connectors. Ski trails are open dawn to dusk.
DXC describes the Nordic expansion perfectly: the Spirit Mountain Nordic Center at Grand (formerly Grand Avenue Nordic Center) is a joint effort amongst DXC , Spirit Mountain, and the City of Duluth to bring a world-class Nordic ski venue into our community with consistent snowmaking and grooming to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, and to serve as a reliable event host in our region. Spirit Mountain grooms the Nordic Center at Grand every night. The Upper trails are groomed on a scheduled basis and as conditions warrant once there is enough natural snow.
