Latest Update

Operations Update: This weekend, Spirit Mountain is hosting over 200 downhill skiers as they race in a qualifier event. Racers are traveling from across the country, and the mountain will be buzzing with high-speed action.

If you’re here for the race, welcome! Please plan to base out of the Skyline Chalet, where racer operations will be centered.

If you’re not a racer, but planning to ride Spirit this weekend, here’s what you need to know:

  • Spirit Mountain will be open for normal operational hours
  • All three lifts, plus the rope tow and bunny hill, will be open to the public
  • The Highline Lift will be the primary lift for Atmore racers and may experience higher traffic
  • Bear Claw and Gandy will be closed to the public until 3:00 PM each day for racing. These runs will reopen for night skiing, but expect slick, race-prepped conditions
  • Racers will be based out of the Skyline Chalet. For a better experience, we recommend non-racers park at the Grand Avenue Chalet unless you need lessons or rentals. Lessons and rentals are only available at the Skyline Chalet.
  • Upper and Lower Nordic loops will be open during normal hours
  • Tubing will be open during normal hours

Thanks for your flexibility as we host this exciting action-packed weekend on the mountain!

Past Updates

This week brings blue skies and some crisp temperatures. We will be open all 7 days this week and hope to see you out there!

Events to keep an eye out for this week:

  • Coffee Club - Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings, 9:30am-11am at Grand Ave Chalet. Warm up with free coffee and community before you hit the slopes.
  • Atmore Alpine Race - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all day. This FIS premier alpine race race draws racers from all over the county and even internationally. We expect Skyline Chalet to be busier than usual and are encouraging folks to park and gear up at the Riverside Chalet on these days.
  • Winter Out West - Saturday, 3:30pm-7:00pm. Celebrating all of the fun things to do out in West Duluth. Visit our skating rink at Riverside for some free winter fun and a big bonfire!

Good chilly morning! Temperatures are going to warm up today out of the dangerous zone and into the wear-another-base-layer zone.

Today (1/24/2026) we will delay our opening until 12pm and run the lifts until 8pm. Tomorrow (1/25/2026), we are expecting to run from 10am-6pm.

Weekend Operations: We are keeping a close eye on the forecasts and conditions on the mountain and hope to reopen by 12pm on Saturday. Please check our social media and the Mountain Message for updates.

We're open! Temperatures are a bit chilly but winds are down and the snow is crisp.

Cold weather forecasts: We see some chilly temperatures in the forecast starting on Thursday night. We know that weather in the Midwest is hard to predict and can change as we get closer to the weekend. We will announce any plans for closures for the weekend on Thursday. We use a combination of temperatures and wind forecasts to determine wind chill. We will close the mountain at -35 wind chill with the stats from our on mountain temperature gauges and wind speed sensors on our lifts. We would prefer to stay open and bundle up for some chilly but fun time on the slopes, but will close if needed for the safety of our guests and staff.

MLK Monday Operations: Temperatures are crisp this morning, but we still have lots of good snow to ski. Bring an extra layer, some hand warmers, and your favorite gloves! We are running our tubing hill today from 12pm-5pm. Its the perfect way to get out for a little and have some fun!

Monday Night Race League is cancelled tonight due to the temperatures. The Moosehead Saloon will still be open for those looking to start their week off with friends, good food, and a few beers.

All operations will be open throughout MLK Weekend. Bundle up and enjoy great conditions on the slopes, with additional tubing sessions available on MLK Monday.

Operations Update 1:30pm: For the safety of our guests and staff, we are closing down our Highline Lift due to high winds. The Spirit Express II and Big Air Chair are running at reduced speeds and Lone Oak Rope Tow and Bunny Hill are all operating as usual.

Updates will be posted here if anything changes.

Big Lake Effect snow dump just in time for the weekend! Friday morning we woke up to a heavy blanket of fresh fluffy snow covering the mountain along with temperatures hovering just below 30 degrees. Saturday and Sunday are expected to hang out in the mid-teens while Monday could drop below 0. But when the snow is this good, you've got to get out and enjoy it! Pack extra layers, your favorite neck gator, and some hand warmers just in case.

Nordic Race at Grand Ave 1/16/2026: We are hosting a large Nordic race at Grand Ave and Lower Nordic Trails will be closed to the public until 5pm. We are expecting lots of people and are recommending downhill skiers to go to the Skyline Chalet. There is overflow parking across the street at Ski Hut if needed.

This is MLK Weekend and we have extended hours on both Sunday and Monday. Check out our hours for Sunday and Monday here!

The Spirit Express II Lift has been repaired and will be open along with the Highline lift today at 10am. The Lone Oak Tow Park is being fully reset today and will be closed until 3pm.

The forecast is looking good this week and we have snow on the radar for Tuesday and Thursday! Warm temperatures this week make for some comfortable skiing. Leave a few layers in the car and come ride.

We are evacuating the Spirit Express II as of 1:20pm on Sunday, January 11. The Big Air Chair, Highline Lift, Lone Oak Rope Tow, and the Bunny Hill will all remain open and functional. The Spirit Express had a mechanical malfunction and we will update here when we have an update.
