June 16, 2017 ll Friday Night Update, 9:20 pm. It was a beautiful day at the hill today! The heat came on a bit in the afternoon, but was fairly well tempered by a steady breeze. Thank You to all our guests who were able to make it out to enjoy some fun and sun.
Well, it's Grandma's Eve in Duluth. We wish all the best to the many athletes, their friends and families, and everyone associated with the events that help define Grandma's Weekend.
It's probably safe to say that around 99% of the people in our area are closely following the weather this weekend. We are right there in the mix, with more than one eye on the sky. Looking at the various models it's a blend of will it or won't it, and of course, the when portion of will it or won't it...."it" being precipitate. One of the favorable trends we're seeing is that, although the percentage of chance for rain fluctuates tomorrow through Sunday, the daily totals for potential precipitation are declining. Sometimes the Big Lake has a way of parting the clouds when the west wind blows, and we're hoping this weekend is one of those times. We're encouraged and optimistic, because until the moisture hits the ground...it's still just a forecast.
Our plan is to roll out as usual tomorrow morning, which means our Adventure Park, Scenic Chairlift and Bike Park all open at 11am. Our Riverside Bar and Grill opens at 11am as well, just in time for a cold beverage and some lunch. Try a burger or salad, paired with one of the local brews you'll find on tap, and it's a solid match.

As always, we'll be keeping a close eye on the weather projections as we move ahead. Friday looks awesome. Perhaps we see a stray shower/storm overnight, but looks minimal and out by morning. Saturday is expected to be WARM and SUNNY with slight chances of a late-afternoon/early-evening stray shower/storm. Sunday will be warm again with late-afternoon storms. Obviously all is subject to change, but we definitely like the chances to get in some quality outdoor recreational activities via downhill mountain biking, scenic chairlift rides, alpine coaster, zipline, disc golfing and much more here in Duluth this weekend...join us!
Also, a special THUMBS-UP to the Bike Park crew for the solid efforts this past week! Expect the bike trails to be in very nice condition when we roll here, albeit, we could use a few drops of rain to knock down the dust a bit...but, we're stoked at the results from the past week. The boys have been repairing, preparing, sweeping, weed-whipping, rock-removing and dialing-it-all-in on the trails all week long! We anticipate most trails to be open & ready for the taking, so grab the gear and crew to hit up Spirit Bike Park, the Duluth Traverse and much more here in Bike Country USA - Duluth, Minnesota!

The bike park crew and maintenance team have been busy these past several days getting the mountain bike trails and hill back in shape following the storms & wet earlier in the week. Plans at this point are to open the following bike trails for this weekend's operations:

The bottom-line, we are going to have some very, very nice trail conditions this weekend...and hopefully the forecasts hold accordingly.
As far as the Adventure Park, always a good time with the Alpine Coaster, Mini-Golf, Jumping Pillow, Disc Golf and Scenic Chairlift Rides. PLEASE NOTE that our Timber Flyer ZIPLINE is going to be OUT OF SERVICE for a few days as we are awaiting parts for a repair. Monday - May 29th @ 6:45am: Our Adventure Park will be open today from 11am-6pm. We are looking at a mostly cloudy day with temps into the mid 50s, and pretty much the anticipation is for good times on the hill today. Though there are chances for some afternoon raindrops, we don't anticipate any storms or significant weather events and will keep right on rolling with the alpine coaster & other attractions. With this stated, please note that wet conditions will cause delays in our zipline and jumping pillow operations as these attractions simply are not safe to operate under such conditions.
As previously announced, our Bike Park, Grand Ave Chalet and Scenic Chairlift Ride will NOT be in operation today due to extremely saturated trail conditions.
On this Memorial Day; from all of us here at Spirit Mountain - we extend a Thank You for all of you serving our great country and pay tribute to those lives lost in doing so; our freedom is not free and your sacrificies are not forgotten.
***MILITARY APPRECIATION SPECIAL TODAY - 50% Off Wristbands for all military personnel and immediate family members. Active, Retired, Veterans -- ID is needed please. Visit us at the Adventure Park ticket area and ask about this special.***
Sunday, 28 May at 9:30pm - Bike trails will be closed on Monday, May 29th. Adventure Park operations to be updated on Monday morning once we see how the incoming weather systems will impact the Adventure Park.
Sunday, 28 May 2017 at 12:30PM - BUMMER! Chairlift, Adventure Park, and Grand Ave Chalet are closed for the rest of the day due to continued and projected severe & inclement weather. Stay tuned for updates on Monday operations...
7:00AM - Bike Trails CLOSED for today due to wet/saturated trails. Scenic Chairlift Rides, Adventure Park & Grand Avenue Chalet all open today starting at 11am.
Unfortunately, the Bike Park will not operate here Sunday. Due to this morning's rain event as well as the saturated hill, the trails are simply too wet for riding. We feel very fortunate to have had the Friday and Saturday sessions, but we simply must protect our trails from damage under these conditions.
Our plan is to roll with scenic chairlift rides, alpine coaster, zipline, mini-golf, jumping pillow and disc golf as well as the Riverside Bar & Grill will be open...all starting at 11am. We are monitoring the weather closely as there are chances of some storm activity throughout the day, but we will operate as many activities as possible so long as the weather allows. From what we are seeing now, the next system of inclement weather looks to blow in this afternoon; little hard to tell exactly what the weather models will do this afternoon or how long it will last. So, again, stay tuned and come on out to enjoy this holiday Sunday in Duluth!
Friday, 26 May 2017 at 9:30pm - Thanks to everyone that made it out to ride, bike and adventure with us today! Our day was cut a bit short with some early-evening thunder & lightning, but that system was in & out without much issue....plus, thankfully, no significant precipitation during the weather event and then lots of evening sun to finish out Friday. This all adds up to and leads towards an AWESOME SATURDAY for the mountain bikers, adventure park go-ers, disc golfers, scenic lift riders and anyone else whom chooses to venture out in Duluth...looks like 70s and SUN, so don't forget the sunscreen as the good times are ON! See below for additional information and details...enjoy!
Friday, 26 May 2017 at 6:45am - It's ON, Mountain Bike Park & Adventure Park OPEN today starting at 11am!
Thankfully, those projected rains/storms last night pretty much missed us, so all is a GO at this point for mountain bike operations. The hill is still pretty wet in places, but we feel comfortable enough to roll a few trails here for Friday. Trail valuations will continue here this morning, and obviously we will continue to watch & monitor all weather activity very closely...but all actually looks pretty good for the precip to hold off today until at least the late-afternoon/early-evening hours, and some show maybe we get nothing....so, we shall see! Looking at Saturday, holy guacamole, should be a stellar weather day of big-time SUN, FUN & 70s...a CHOICE DAY for sure!
Thoughts at this point are we roll Sprung a Leek, Candyland, Smorgasbord, Wrecking Ball, three of four lines in the Skills Park and potentially Blaster. Unfortunately, Happy Camper is too wet to ride, so therefore Happy, Wildcat & Boss Hog are closed. Calculated Risk will also be closed. It will definitley be give the bike a bath day; take advantage of our Bike Wash at the Grand Ave Chalet.
It's always difficult to say exactly how the weather will impact our plans, but we will roll along with ALL operations as best we can here for the holiday weekend. We are stoked to get the "summer" season underway. The crew has done a nice job with the preparation efforts, and now is time to enjoy the many offerings at Spirit as well as Duluth!
The Adventure Park -- Alpine Coaster, Zipline, Jumping Pillow & Mini-Golf -- are all ready to roll!
Scenic Chairlift Rides will be underway and our Grand Avenue Chalet & Riverside Bar & Grill are ready to rock!
Our Disc Golf course will start out the season with 9 holes of FUN for everyone!
I've already mentioned the happenings with our Bike Park, and we're just stoked to have the opportunity to get some riding in this weekend!
Stay tuned, and we will certainly keep you updated....and check out our #OPENINGWEEKEND video filmed on location yesterday (Thursday, 25 May 2017) at YOUR favorite recreation area....see you this weekend!
Wednesday, 24 May 2017 - Memorial Weekend may be the unofficial start to summer, but for us here at Spirit Mountain...it's the official start of our "OTHER" season and to Good Times! Our Mountain Bike Trails & Adventure Park are slated to open for the season on Friday, May 26, 2017. For a complete schedule and hours of operation - VISIT HERE -
The biggest question on many minds at this point is simply will the weather affect our planned operations this weekend? Like many of you, we are obviously watching the weather closely here as we roll towards the holiday weekend, and more specifically, we will discuss the mountain bike trails here for a moment as these are simply the most affected by "wet" weather. The GOOD NEWS is that the sun is OUT and temps are hanging in the mid/upper 50s & into the 60s as we finish out this week and throughout the weekend. The not-so-great-news is that we've had well over four inches of rain these past seven days and the trails here around Duluth have been pretty saturated. The BETTER NEWS, the dry-out is ON and we certainly anticipate many of our downhill trails to be in solid shape for opening day weekend....so long as we don't get any crazy rainfall amounts. The forecasts and weather models are mixed, and it's definitely tough to say exactly how all will unfold as well as to what extent such will impact operations this weekend. My best guess at this point is minimally, and our plans are to roll along as planned.
Though there are some chances of rain over the holiday weekend, most models show minimal totals, not much in the form of any severe weather and perhaps most of these systems dissipate before rolling onto our hill....again, we will keep evaluating as all unfolds, but we are quite optimisitic for solid good times on the bike trails as well as our Adventure Park, Disc Golf and other activities for this coming holiday weekend!
Are you coming in for a visit to the area? Staying at our Campground or Loding Partners, means you receive exclusive discounts for the Adventure Park. Make sure to ask about how to receive these discounts when you check-in.
Stay tuned and we look forward to having you "Unleash YOUR Adventure" here in Duluth very soon!
